Pattern Blocks and the Liebster Award

Today has been quite the productive Monday, for summer that is. Very exciting news was that I got a unit posted on Teachers Pay Teachers that I have been working on for over two months... it was a slow process.  It is a Zoo Animal Pattern Block Unit...and I have it discounted on TpT for the first week.

Click on either image above to see the item on Teachers Pay Teachers.

I also caught up with a few friends on the phone today and hit up the beach for an hour. Yes, that equals a productive Monday in July.

Other exciting news today was that I was nominated for The Liebster Award by Stephanie at Polka Dot Palace. Well, I have to say I already got this award in December 2012...but who doesn't like to get awards, right?

I guess I should have the Liebster Award on my sidebar, but I just feel weird doing that...so we'll see...maybe...what I really need to do is hit 200 followers because the Liebster Award is for new bloggers with less than 200 followers.  If you haven't heard of this award its purpose to help spread the word about all the fabulous new blogs out there.

Let me share the rest of the rules.....
-Post 11 random things about yourself
-Answer the questions the nominator set for your
-Create 11 questions for the people you nominate
-Choose 11 blogs you love (with less than 200 followers)

Soo.. I am going to answer Stephanie's questions that she has set for me... but I am not going to nominate new people {seems it would be unfair of me} or tell you 11 random things about myself... but if you are dying to know 11 random facts about me please check out my post from when I first received this award... just {Click Here}

Now on to the questions from Stephanie:

1. What is your favorite childhood memory?
Hmm, I am not sure. This isn't a good start, "I'm not sure" on question one. I had a great childhood and so many memories. I think I will go with a birthday party I had at a place called KidSpace and the best part was the face painting.

2. Tell me about your least favorite teacher in school?
Another hard one... do you mean when I was a student or now? Either way, I don't have a specific person in mind, but I don't like people who see the glass as half empty. Not just at school, but in life, I just want to be around happy and positive people. That being said, my sixth grade teacher seemed to exemplify the negative attitude I refer to.

3. What is your dream teaching job?
This sounds cheesy.. but I think I have it. I LOVE my school. I really do. I will say that I would like to teach abroad again- and I plan on doing a post about that soon. But, honestly I work at an amazing school, with an amazing principal and community. I'm very lucky.

4. Would you ever want to be an administrator? Why or why not?
I had big plans to be an administrator. If you had asked me straight out of college, I thought I would be one by now. I have my Master's Degree in Educational Administration, I even made sure to have teaching experience in the lower and the upper grades...... BUT I just LOVE the time with the kids. So for now, I have hit pause on that plan and honestly, I am not sure I ever will because I am so happy doing what I currently do.

5. What was your first car?
It was a Mercedes... oh I know what you are thinking, fancy... well, it was yellow, it was diesel, it was stick shift and it was a 1985. You aren't thinking fancy anymore, are you? It was a fun first car though!

6. What was the last movie you saw in the theater?
Iron Man... it was my husband's turn to choose.

7. If you have kids, how did you come up with their names? Something you liked, family significance, etc. If you don't have kids, what would you want to name them if you ever did?
We don't have any kids and the jury is out on if we will.. so I really don't know how I would go about choosing a name. I will say, there are a few names that are off the list after having a student by that name. You know, the name you say over and over and over... and well, it just stays with you and those names are off limits now.

8. Tell me about one of those lesson that just went wrong, it didn't work.
Back when I was teaching 5th grade we did a science experiment that just didn't work. It was testing condensation and evaporation and I can't even remember the details... I must have blocked it out on purpose, but it was something about having cups with different amounts of water and temperatures and somehow the wrong cup of water evaporated....something not right with the control factors, but the cup in the sunlight still had water in it and the one in the cupboard didn't.... Yikes! The kids were confused, it wasn't fun.

9. What do you do to relax?
This is sad, but I read blogs to relax. I play Candy Crush {even more sad!}.....read, shop and hang out with friends.

10. What was your most memorable vacation?
In 2006 I flew standby from LAX to JFK...when I got to JFK I talked with the all the workers to get me on a flight as close to Germany as possible..... You see, it was World Cup that summer and I had a ticket waiting for me with some friends if I could just get to Germany...but flights were full. I am not a big soccer fan, but I am a HUGE traveling fan. So Delta was able to get me from JFK to Brussels. From Brussels I took about 3 trains to Germany.... I got to see the U.S. lose to Ghana...which was a disappointing ending after my efforts. But then we flew to London to watch more World Cup in the pubs and that is when I met my husband. Yes, we met in a bar... he was a friend of one of my friends who had got me the ticket. So it seems my efforts were worth it in the end.

11. Are you a Coke or Pepsi person?
Coke.

Thank you Stephanie for nominating me and for asking such good questions. I look forward to reading what your other nominees answered.

Happy Monday!

  2. I love the pattern blocks. I searched high & low last year for something exactly like this for my 2nd graders to work with before taking our standardized tests. Thank you for sharing that you created them. I'm adding them to my wishlist to remind myself to purchase them.
